Weedsport, NY – July, 27 2008 – By Dan Kapuscinski, Cayuga County Fair Speedway PR and Promotions Coordinator
Tom Juhl returned to victory lane at Cayuga County Fair Speedway for the second time in his career Sunday on A-Verdi Night at the Races. Juhl’s no. 17d passed Fran Hilton for the top spot on lap-13 to claim the victory over the 26-car field.
“The car was real good tonight,” said Juhl in victory lane. “The guys got it set up perfect for me in the feature. This car is for sale too, $9,000 and you can race it next weekend!”
Jeremy Pitcher, Kevin Ridley, Dave Marcuccilli, and Beth Schneider rounded out the top five runners.
Bubba Burnell claimed victory in the Street Stock division with Brent Marks getting the win in the Central New York Mini-Sprints. Nick Werner took the BattleKarz main event.

Earl Rudy and Schneider started the 25-lap Sportsman Modified main event from the front row with Rudy taking the early advantage. Rudy would lead the field until a caution on lap-6 for a stopped John Behron in turn one.
At the restart Rudy led Hilton, Juhl, Daryl Hilkert and Schneider. Hilton however was on the move in the no. 3 as he powered under Rudy to take the point off the start in turn four. Juhl and Hilkert were able to followed passed Hilton in the following laps for second and third.
By lap-11 Juhl and Hilkert had closed right in on Hilton out in front. Finally, on lap-13 Juhl moved his no. 17d to the top side, as he had done all night, and breezed by Hilton for the number one position into turn one.
Another caution slowed the field on lap-17, as Spike Smith came to a rest in turn three. At the restart Juhl led Hilton, Hilkert, Pitcher, and Jim Spano. On the restart Pitcher made a power move to get by both Hilton and Hilkert to move into the runner-up position.
Lap-20 saw Hilton’s great run come to a close as he and Kevin Ridley made contact coming out of turn four. Ridley was able to save his machine, but Hilton slid into the turn one jersey barrier. The no. 3 was able to continue but was out of the running.
As the race pressed on into the final laps Juhl simply proved to be too strong despite late race charges from Pitcher, Ridley, and Dave Marcuccilli. Juhl streamed under Dave Farney’s checkered flags by over a second on Pitcher at the finish.
Ridley, Marcuccilli, Schneider, John Venuto, Todd Town, Daryl Hilkert, Bill Clark, and Justin Wright finished the top 10.
The 20-lap Street Stock main event saw a tremendous battle for the top spot between Bubba Burnell and Chris Fisher. Burnell started deep in the field, but by lap-8 found his way passed Steve Woodworth for the runner-up position on the inside out of turn four.
Mike Vaughn led early in the no. 11, but eventually pushed up the raceway allowing Fisher to grab the lead low on lap-5. Vaughn lost six spots in the process. As this happened it became clear the race for the win was going to be a two car battle between Fisher and Burnell.
Fisher and Burnell battled hard until the no. 57b was able to sneak under Fisher to take the lead on the inside out of turn two. Once Burnell made his way by, a battled then raged for second between Fisher and Nate Peckham. Eventually, Peckham was able to get past the no. 37 for the runner up spot out of turn two.
Meanwhile, Burnell was well on his way to victory in the 20-lap finale.
“After hitting the wall in the heat race I thought we were done,” said Burnell. “a lot of people helped us in the pit area to get the car going. My guys really worked their butts off. The car ran great!”
Peckham held on for second ahead of Fisher, Welch, and Ellison in the top five.
The 20-lap Central New York Mini Sprint main was a runaway by the no. 1 of Brent Marks. Marks blasted into the lead early, and at one point built nearly a full straight lead on his closest competitor which was the no. 99 of Michael Kiser.
Three cautions slowed the field, but nothing could slow Marks out in front as he took the main event checkered flag from Dave Farney. Kiser, Shaun Gosselin, Tim Durland, and Don Harvey completed the top five.
The Pick-n-Pull Auto Parts 25-lap BattleKarz feature was taken by the no. 47 of Nick Werner. Skip Degroff, Bobby Edwards, James Werner, and Karl Werner followed in the fast five.
