The last ever race at Pinecrest Speedway was held in August, 1976. Here are 12 shots that I took in a walk around of the track on this last night of racing. I started in the main grandstand (west side), and walked clockwise around the track.
It was sort of fitting that the last night was raining. For anyone that didn't have the pleasure of visiting Pinecrest, the racing was held "Rain or Shine", and racers learned to adapt to the wet conditions. Windshield wipers and racing in the high groove up against the wall were the way to go. All grandstands that surrounded the 1/4 mile oval were covered (except for the ones on the south).
If memory serves me correctly, I believe that Tom Milligan won the last feature (on a dried out track).

Here are views from the main grandstand,
just to the left of the starter's stand,
looking east over the front straight towards the pits.
In the middle picture,
Doug Warnes' car is seen towing in just under the copyright symbol,
and Don Biederman's car is the blue one under the h in Smith.
The gravel pile looming on the right is an omen of things to come.

looking east towards turns 4 and 3, and south down main straight.
A hotlapping car has hit the "famous Pinecrest wall" in the left picture.
The souvenir booth and concession stands are visible at the very right.

This shot is from the northeast grandstand,
looking southwest over turn 3 towards the main grandstand.

This is a view from the east grandstand,
looking west past the back gate towards the main grandstand.
Cars entered the pits through this gate, but their tow vehicles
had to be stored out in the parking lot due to the tight confines
of the pits. The back straight starter's stand is just to the left.
The blue car just under the 1976 is Don Biederman.

looking south west down the back straight towards turn 2.
